Where is there an ENT specialist?
Ear, nose and throat care is at Peltier General Hospital and Cheiko Hospital, where a hearing test costs 5,000 DJF (2017 fee). Privately, Al Rahma Hospital has an ENT and audiology clinic.
Where can I see a dermatologist?
Public: Peltier General Hospital and Cheiko Hospital, for 3,000 DJF. Private: Al Shifa Hospital on Route de Venise and Al Rahma Hospital in Balbala.
Which specialist for diabetes?
Diabetes and thyroid problems belong to endocrinology: Peltier and Cheiko hospitals, the CNSS Specialised Care Centre, and privately Al Shifa Hospital. Medyc also runs Liberté, a diabetes follow-up programme from 27,000 DJF a month.
If someone with diabetes feels faint and is awake and able to swallow, give them sugar, such as a small glass of fruit juice or a non-diet fizzy drink. If they pass out or have a seizure, give nothing by mouth, lay them on their side and call 119.

Physiotherapy needs a prescription. A session costs 1,000 DJF in the public sector (2017 fee).

At a public hospital, book at reception, ideally with a letter from your own doctor. Medyc books partner specialists for you, in the app or on WhatsApp at +253 77 04 12 12. And if you are not sure which specialist you need, a video consultation with a doctor, from 3,000 DJF, points you to the right one.

How much does a specialist cost in Djibouti?
3,000 DJF at a public hospital (2017 fee). Private clinics set their own fees and must display them at the entrance. Through Medyc, an in-person consultation with a partner doctor starts at 6,000 DJF.
Do I need a GP referral to see a specialist?
Not in the private sector: Al Shifa Hospital, for example, books most specialties without a referral. At the CNSS, the doctor at your care centre refers you to the Specialised Care Centre.
Is there an English-speaking eye doctor in Djibouti?
Dr Bruno Dell’Aquila (+253 21 35 27 24) consults in French and English, and Clinique Affi’s staff speak both. Confirm when you call.
