Toothache at night or on a Friday: where do I go?
Go to the emergency department at Peltier General Hospital (+253 21 35 09 62), Clinique Le Héron (+253 21 34 55 13) or Al Rahma Hospital in Balbala, all open 24/7. Call 119 if the mouth, throat or neck swells and makes breathing hard, or if bleeding won’t stop.
A broken or knocked-out adult tooth needs a dentist as soon as possible, ideally within the hour. A loose crown or filling can wait for a normal appointment.
How much does dental care cost?
At a public hospital, each treatment is charged on top of the consultation. Private practices must display their fees, so ask for the price before treatment starts. Medyc does not provide dental care, but books doctors and specialists at partner facilities, in the app or on WhatsApp.

Private practices usually close on Friday. For severe pain, swelling or bleeding, the emergency departments at Peltier Hospital, Clinique Le Héron and Al Rahma Hospital are open 24/7.
How much is a tooth extraction in Djibouti?
5,000 DJF at a public hospital (2017 fee), plus the 3,000 DJF consultation. At a private practice, ask for the price before treatment.
Do dentists in Djibouti speak English?
English is spoken at the Adventist Health Center and by Dr Ramsis Fathi and Dr Eirik Pertus. Confirm when you call.
Does the CNSS cover dental care?
CNSS members are treated at the dental department of the Specialised Care Centre on showing their biometric card. AMU and PASS card holders are covered at public hospitals. For a private practice, ask before treatment whether it accepts the CNSS.
