Call 119 first (SMUR, free, 24 hours). At night, emergency departments stay open at Peltier (Plateau du Serpent), at Cheiko and Al Rahma (Balbala) and at Clinique Le Héron. For a pregnancy emergency, go to Dar El Hanan; CNSS members can use the Specialised Care Centre.
What is the main hospital in Djibouti?
Peltier General Hospital on the Plateau du Serpent: the CHU de Djibouti’s reference hospital, with 327 beds, MRI, CT scanners and a 24-hour emergency department.
Which hospital is in Balbala?
The public Cheiko Hospital (Route Nationale 1, Cité Cheikh Osman) and Al Rahma Hospital (Hodan) both have 24-hour emergency departments. CNRSR Housseina (Hodan, Cité Barwaqo) specialises in reproductive health.
Where can I get an MRI in Djibouti?
At Peltier Hospital and at Clinique Le Héron. You need a written request from a doctor; call reception to book. In public facilities, an MRI costs 35,000 DJF (2017 tariff).
Can civilians be treated at the French military hospital?
Case by case only. According to the US Embassy, the military hospital (Bouffard) asks for a passport, insurance details and a deposit of about 20,000 DJF for an admission. In an emergency, call 119.
Do public hospitals accept the AMU or PASS card?
Yes: AMU and PASS card holders are covered in Ministry of Health facilities; show the card at reception. The public emergency fee is 6,000 DJF (2017 tariff).
