AMO or PASS: which scheme are you in?

What does the AMU cover?
The CNSS pays contracted providers directly, so you do not pay up front. At a private clinic, check the CNSS agreement before the consultation, not at the till.

- Vaccines, consultations for children under 5, pregnancy care, tuberculosis, malaria.
- Covered in full
- GP consultations, childbirth including caesarean section.
- Covered, possibly with a share to pay
- Curative consultations, generics from the national list, tests ordered by a specialist, hospital stays.
What documents do you need for the AMU card?
The registration service is on the Plateau du Serpent, avenue Djama Elabeh, opposite the ADDS. Your employer registers you, but you apply for the card yourself.

Which CNSS form do you need?
All of them are on the Forms page of cnss.dj. Print, fill in and sign them before you go to the counter.

How does the CNSS pay maternity leave?
Employees in the private or semi-public sector registered with the CNSS get 26 weeks of leave, paid in three instalments. The first two are shared between the CNSS and the employer, capped at 400,000 DJF; the CNSS pays the third alone.
Only CNSS gynaecologists can issue the pregnancy certificate. Add the work-stoppage certificate and three payslips, then, after the birth, the discharge form, the birth certificate and the return-to-work certificate.

For your rights, your card or a refund, the CNSS answers. While your card is on its way, Medyc arranges a doctor by video in Djibouti, from 3,000 DJF.

Your questions, answered
Up to what age are children covered by the AMU?
Up to 18 under the 2014 law, under 21 on the CNSS family page. Ask the 114 line which rule applies to your file.
Can I use my AMU card at a private clinic?
Only if the clinic has an agreement with the CNSS. Ask when you book.
Does PASS cover a CT scan or ultrasound?
No: the law excludes CT scans, ultrasound, endoscopy and special tests from the first PASS package. Ask the facility how they will be billed.
Can my employer get my AMU card for me?
No. Your employer registers you and gives you the work certificate; you apply in person, with your photos and ID card.
Does the CNSS pay for medicines?
Yes for generics on the national essential medicines list. For any other medicine, ask the pharmacist what you will have to pay.
